Grantham crash out of FA CUP

Grantham traveled to Oadby Town in the 1st round of the Fa cup and got off to the perfect start after a save by Leigh Walker was hoofed up to Jason Turner, the strike cooly finished to make it 1-0 with less than 2 minutes gone. Joe Latham was dismissed for pulling Jon Douglas shirt and from the resulting free-kick, skipper Ian Robinson scored a great goal to put the gingerbreads into a comfortable 2-0 lead. Dougie Wade aimed to make it 3 before the break but narrowly squeezed it wide. Andy Almond was a threat all day and as his shot rebounded off the post, Steve Fenton volleyed past Walker. Douglas was then sent off for retaliation and within 90 seconds it was 2-2. Danny Hodgkinson's low shot enough to level the score and numbers. Dean Edwards brought down Wade with an hour played and it was 9 men for Oadby. Almond continued to threaten and after beating Sturgess and Watt he found James Miller to make it 3-2 and with seconds ticking away, David Fisher condemned Lee Glover's side to their final defeat under the Forest midfielder.

Glover Sacked

Lee Glover has been axed by Grantham Town following a poor start to the season. The ex-forest midfielder who played under Nigel Clough and with Roy Keane, was appointed in October 2004 after Dave Norton's resignation during the 4-2 Fa Cup defeat by Shepshed on 18th September 2004. Lee's only win of the season was a 3-1 win over Leek Town at home. After the opening game, there were no murmurs of wanting him out after a great result with Telford. 4 straight defeats followed but Glover assured himself of another fortnight with the win over Leek. A defeat followed and on Tuesday 12th September, Glover axed fans favourite Adrian Speed. That evening they crashed 2-1 to Ilkeston and the final nail in the coffin was when Glover's side let a 2-0 lead crash in an Fa Cup game to Oadby where there were humbled 4-2 by a side 2 tiers lower.
